New York sports radio icon Mike Francesa voices differing views on the president Donald Trump created a rift in the Mets clubhouse.
Francesca said on her podcast Tuesday that the feud between the pals Francisco Lindor and outfielder Brandon Nimmo, recently traded to the Texas Rangers, was fired up by politics. Francesca did not reveal which player supported Trump and which did not.
“My understanding is that the Nimmo-Lindor case was political and had to do with Trump,” Francesa said. “One side liked Trump, the other side didn’t like Trump.”

Nimmo, what? traded to Rangers on November 23 after waiving the no-trade clause in his 8-year, $162 million contract earlier that month.
The Nimmo trade was just one domino in a tumultuous offseason for the Mets, which also saw the departure of two other fan favorite first basemen. Pete Alonso and closer Edwin Diaz.
All three players were starters on the Mets' last two playoff teams in 2022 and 2024, having played together as the team's starters dating back to 2020.

In exchange for Nimmo, Rangers sent second baseman Marcus Semien to the Mets. Nimmo is 32 and this is the year he hit a career-high in home runs with 25, while Semien is 35 and hit just 15 home runs in 2025.
