new Vanity Fair author profile Chris Whipple opens up a personal world about a White House chief of staff who rarely talks and when she does, she doesn't shy away.
Talking to All things considered, Whipple said the article was based on 11 in-depth interviews conducted on-record over the past year, with exceptional access to Susie Wiles. “Over the course of your career as a reporter, every now and then you get struck by lightning,” Whipple told NPR.
In Whipple's reporting, Wiles criticized numerous colleagues in and around the White House, including saying Attorney General Pam Bondi had a “total disregard” for her handling of the Epstein files and calling Vice President J.D. Vance a “conspiracy theorist,” among other characteristics. Whipple's profile revealed that Wiles was equally outspoken about her boss, describing President Donald Trump as having the “personality of an alcoholic” – a characterization that Trump, who doesn't drink, later repeated himself. another news publicationsaying, “She’s right. I have a really obsessive and dependent personality.”
Tuesday Wiles pushed back on X, calling the profile a “disingenuously framed piece of reporting” and claiming it presented “an extremely chaotic and negative narrative about the President and our team.”
Whipple told Everything is taken into account that Wiles' response stood out precisely because he avoided challenging the substance of the message. “Not a single fact in the article was disputed,” Whipple said.
