If you missed the announcement on Game rewardsHudson, director of the Mass Effect trilogy, officially returns to Star wars galaxy with its new game, The fate of the Old Republic spiritual successor Knights of the Old Republic.
Created in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and developed by Arcanaut Studios. Fate of the Old Republic is currently in early development, meaning we don't have a release date yet, although many fans are hoping there will be one PlayStation 6 title.
However, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier suggested that BlueSky post that the 2030 release window is an “optimistic guess” and that it could be a PlayStation 7 game.
Due to the typical AAA development cycle and the fact that Arcanaut Studios was founded in July, it looks like FOTOR won't be released anytime soon.
However, in a new post published on X/TwitterHudson advised fans not to worry about the “2030 at the earliest” rumors and that the game would release before 2030.
“Don't worry about the 'not until 2030' rumors.” The game will be released earlier. I'm not getting any younger! said the director.
So, 2029? There's still a long way to go, but either way I can't wait.
FOTOR is said to not be a direct sequel or follow-up to BioWare's KOTOR, but is a narrative-driven, single-player role-playing game (RPG) where you step into the role of a Force user as you journey through a galaxy on the brink of rebirth.
After the game was announced, Hudson stated that he was working on KOTOR was “one of the defining experiences” of his career, and that with FOTOR the team will tell “an entirely new and different story with everything we've learned since – creating an adventure about choice, fate and the eternal struggle between light and darkness.”
