- Apple TV app on Android now supports Google Cast
- Netflix removed this feature a few weeks ago.
- It's an easy way to send content to the right big screens.
With hits like For many, Severance pay, Ted LassoAnd Reduction, Apple TV is one of the best streaming services around, and also has some great news for Android users as the holiday season gets underway.
Apple TV launched on Android in February 2025, and while he was away Google Stream support at launch, the latest update coming out now not only fixes this but may also encourage some Netflix users to join the platform. On Android, you can now easily send the show or movie you're watching to your big screen Google Cast-enabled TV.
It's as simple as tapping the Google Cast icon on your screen and selecting the TV or display you want to send the image to. It then connects and starts playing, but the controls remain on your Android device in the Apple TV app.
Pretty simple – and not only is it a great way to easily get content on the big screen at home, but also for hotels with compatible TVs and for Airbnb rentals. You can easily watch something on TV without having to sign into a service on a screen that's not yours forever.
Apple's decision to implement this feature now not only adds a feature that has been missing since the Apple TV debuted on Android, but also just weeks after Netflix removed much of its app's functionality – a step that did not please all consumers and subscribers.
I don't know if we'll ever see Netflix bring the feature back, given that the removal was done quietly, but Apple TV getting Cast support is a good sign in its favor. It's included in version 2.2 of the Apple TV app, and after a quick update, you'll see a Google Cast icon during playback.
Apple isn't adding Google Cast to the iOS app yet, but Apple TV on that platform has long supported AirPlay, which is another easy way to get content onto the big screen using supported TVs or displays.
Overall, this is a good – and thankfully timely – update from Apple to the Apple TV app on Android. Let us know in the comments if you're planning on using this feature this holiday season and what you've been wanting to watch on Apple TV.
