Truth be told, I haven't played that many games this year, who has time! However, there was one point that I couldn't miss: Silent Hill fthe first truly new entry in the series in years, with some pedigree behind it, writer Higurashi and Umineko Ryukishi07. I finished considering this for this site, and I really liked it then, and now, perhaps, even more. We've had to learn some important lessons, and in a recent interview, Ryukishi07 put some of those lessons into succinct and rather beautiful words.
Talking to GamesRadarthe writer talked about how each of horror The characters in the game, not only the main character Hinako, but also her parents, her friends and the mysterious Fox Mask, “may have had their own hell. Please don't forget about this or the fact that Hinako was oblivious to this hell because she was too caught up in her personal hell to notice.” He went on to note that your personal hell is “a world of loneliness that no one else can perceive, but please don’t fall into the trap of assuming that others around you don’t have their own hell.”
Later in the interview, Ryukishi07 says what I find most touching: the strange feeling you get from something like Silent Hill. He talks about how he wants people to believe that whatever form of hell a person experiences will one day end. And, he says, “the key to escaping your personal hell lies in the hands of your family, friends or local hotlines.” You've been through so much of your own personal hell. You have already endured enough, so please be proud of yourself and rely on others for help.”
The part about hotlines may be a little corny, but I deeply appreciate the overall spirit of the message. It's a message that is well woven into the game itself and is inherently borderline Kingdom Heartsian, a series that is arguably diametrically opposed to Silent Hill in almost every way. The sense of camaraderie between Hinako and Shu is one of the best elements of the game, and it's nice to see that the powerful narrative of how these two rely on each other wasn't just a fluke.
I'd highly recommend the full version on GamesRadar if you don't mind some spoilers. I had little faith in Silent Hill f, and I was proven wrong, so seeing the love with which Ryukishi07 speaks about his creation is just nice to see.
