Rob Reiner and wife found dead in their Los Angeles home: What to know

Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle were found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday afternoon in what police are investigating as an apparent homicide.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Michelle and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss and ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time,” Reiner’s family said in a statement obtained by Variety.

Los Angeles police have launched an investigation

Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Homicide and Robbery Unit were called to the couple's Brentwood home around 3:40 p.m. Sunday after learning two people had been found dead. They arrived at the site after being asked by the Los Angeles Fire Department, who were the first to be called to the scene.

Sources later told CBS News that Reiner, 78, and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner, 68, were identified as the victims. LAPD detectives have yet to publicly identify the victims or release the circumstances of their deaths.

During a press conference Sunday evening, LAPD Deputy Chief Allen Hamilton said they have not identified a suspect “at this time.” Hamilton said they are “not looking for anyone as a suspect, person of interest or in any other way, and we will not do so until we have investigated and moved forward.”
