The author of the left -wing horror novel by Stephen King, reportedly became the “most forbidden” author in the school libraries of America, since administrators believe that many of his books are filled with too much sexual materials and adult topics.
The determination comes from the Pen America list in the United States, released on Wednesday, New York Post reported
The group found that 80 percent of the prohibitions were established by three states – Florida, Texas and Tennessee. Nevertheless, the total number is reduced compared to a high mark in the 2023-24 academic year. Several dark states showed very few calls for prohibitions, including Illinois, Maryland and New Jersey. These states, however, have laws that limit schools that make such decisions.
The reasons for exceptions from school libraries included LGBTK+ topics, sexual violence, racial topics and violence in general.
“This is increasingly the history of the two countries,” said Casey Mikhan, director of the Freedom to Pen Freedom to Read program. “And this is not just the history of the Red States and the Blue States. In Florida, not all school districts responded to calls to the ban on books. You can find differences from the district to the district. ”
King's books were reported to censorship 206 times, most of any other author. His books, excluded from school libraries, include Carrie and Stand. Other books, which are usually prohibited, include the “Clothing Orange”, “sold” by Patricia McCormik, “Forever” Judy Blum, and Jennifer Niven “hid your breath”.
The author of rabies against Trump commented on this announcement and called on the fans to pick up some of his novels that appeared on the prohibited list.
Mikhan spoke specifically about King's books.
“His books are often deleted from the regiments when“ adult ”names or books with“ sexual content ”are aimed at removing – these prohibitions in the vast majority prohibit LGBTQ+ content and books about race, racism and color people – but also affect names such as Stephen King’s books,” Mikhan explained. “Some areas, being excessively careful or suffering from punishment, will be covered so widely that ultimately they remove Stephen King from access.”
Nevertheless, critics accuse the pen of bloating their forbidden list. A similar list of the American Library Association shows fewer numbers than the list of the pen, because it notes only constant prohibitions, where Pen also lists books that were only on temporary or instant exceptions to the libraries.
