Massachusetts leaders react to 'heartbreaking' Brown University shooting: 'Tragic act of violence'
Massachusetts leaders offered prayers after Brown University shooting Two students were killed and nine others were injured Saturday in Rhode Island, calling the incident “horrible” and “tragic.”
“My heart goes out to @BrownUniversity and the City of Providence and my prayers go out to everyone affected by this tragic act of violence. @MassStatePolice is in close contact with Rhode Island officials and I have reached out to @GovDanMcKee to offer our full support and assistance,” Gov. Maura Healey wrote on X.
U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said “the deadly shooting at Brown University is appalling.”
“Students should be able to study in peace without fear of gun violence. My heart goes out to the victims, their loved ones and the entire Providence community,” she wrote.
U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., said he is “heartbroken to learn of the horrific mass shooting at Brown University and sends love and prayers to the victims, their families and the entire Providence community.”
“We must act now to end this painful epidemic of gun violence. Our children must be safe at school,” he added.
The gunman remains at large, officials said.
