French President Emmanuel Macron once again publicly congratulated Sandfall Interactive on Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33this time for having scored a record nine wins at The Game Awards earlier this week.
“Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was just named game of the year in Los Angeles. First time in history for a French game!” Macron announced this on Instagram.

Some commentators, however, took the opportunity to remind the president that he once suggested that video games were “poisoning” the minds of young people during the 2023 riots, although Macron did clarify his position soon after, insisting that he only said this because “criminals were using video game codes to facilitate violence on social networks,” adding: “I condemn violence, not video games.

“Video games are culture, entertainment, spectacle! They are a playground for artistic experimentation, a fun learning space that mixes all types of art,” he said at the time. “Playing means listening to music, immersing yourself in stories, feeling emotions, traveling through time. This is an exploration of visual universes that write a new chapter in the history of art.”
French President Emmanuel Macron also congratulated Sandfall Interactive back in May, calling its role-playing game “a shining example of French courage and creativity”.
All in all, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 had a pretty fantastic night, taking home not only the coveted Game of the Year gong, but eight other awards as well. It won Best Narration, Best Music and Music, Best Art Direction and Best Game Design, and was also named Best RPG, Best Independent Game, and Best Debut Indie Game. In addition, Jennifer English's performance as Mael was named best performance.
Claire Obscure: Expedition 33 wasn't the only winner that nightCertainly. Hades 2 won best action game and Hollow Knight: Silk Song walked away with the prize for best action-adventure film.
