Why Peta Murgatroyd and Maks Chmerkovskiy call Dancing with the Stars a popularity contest
Murgatroyd Map is not going to be led by his feelings about Dancing with the Stars'voting system.
Professional dancer, last seen in season 32 of the series DVTSaddressed the show's current format for determining the winner, saying the Mirrorball Trophy does not always go to the “most advanced” celebrity contestant.
“It's always been like this: a popularity contest,” she told E! News' Erin Lim Rhodes in an exclusive joint interview with her husband and DVTS alum Maks Chmerkovskiy. “So the best dancer doesn’t always win.”
In fact, Peta noted that she has won twice with stars who have “zero experience” in dance.
“I won with two non-dancers,” the 39-year-old said, referring to her Season 14 win with the former NFL player. Donald Driver and victory in season 22 with the model Nyle DiMarco. “People will vote for those they love.”
Max agreed, stating that DVTS has the same voting element as some of the other “biggest shows on television”.
“Twenty years later, it's still the only show that can be watched for four generations,” the 45-year-old said of DVTSwhich he left in 2018 after 17 seasons.”and everyone will find something interesting in it.”
