“You and I connected for the first time The Mummy ReturnsDwayne said to Brendan. “At the time, it was one of the largest franchises in our industry in the world.” Favorite all over the world. You were the face of this franchise.”
“And the flowers I want to give are: I was ready to make my transition to Hollywood. And I was excited. I had the opportunity to play the role of the Scorpion King in your film. I remember meeting Stephen Sommers, our director, and meeting all the guys from Universal.”
“I think there was a point where you could say, ‘Hey, look, I love the idea of a character called the Scorpion King, but this guy, Dwayne Johnson, has never played one before. I know he is involved in professional wrestling. I'm not entirely sure.”
But The Rock remembered people pitching the idea to Brendan, who welcomed him with open arms, changing the course of Dwayne's life forever!
“It really meant something to me. Not only was it your franchise and you took a chance and took a chance with me, who had never acted in a movie back then, but it also launched my career. The Mummy Returnsso that then, Scorpio KingYears later, you and I are sitting here. And as always, but now I want to say thank you, man. Thank you for really changing my life in a way because the trajectory that you allowed to happen led me here,” Dwayne concluded.
During all this, Brendan expressed the most pleasant emotions. Look at this face!
“You're too kind, Dwayne. You were always the right person for the job,” he answered sincerely.
As a person who grew up on Mummy movies and playing these DVDs non-stop, I feel the emotions in this full circle moment. How nice of Brendan to give The Rock a chance back then! How wonderful that Dwayne took this opportunity to thank him now! I love everything about it.
And I'm not the only one. People in the comments gushed about this wonderful interaction:
One person wrote: “This clip just healed my inner child who watched The Mummy Returns 400 times on VHS. George of the Jungle and the Scorpio King in the same room giving each other flowers?? Inject this wholeness straight into my veins.”
Another said: “Legends support each other. Cool moment.”
“Brendan Fraser taking a chance on a wrestler with zero acting experience is crazy when you think about it. Imagine how different Hollywood would look today without this one solution.”
“Never forgetting who set you up is behavior of the highest order. Many people become famous and get amnesia. Huge respect for rock.”
“THIS IS WHY BRENDAN FRASER IS MY GOAT, I'M SO GLAD HE'S MAKING MOVIES AGAIN.”
“Brendan is a national treasure, such a good dude.”
“It’s actually great that he recognized Fraser. He was great.”
And finally: “This is so inspiring. Helping someone believe in themselves can change the course of their life forever. It shows the power of support, risk-taking, and kindness. Moments like these remind us to encourage others because you never know whose life you could change.”
