Seven months after a crash killed four students and their teacher as they were returning home to Walkerton, Ont., from a high school softball tournament, police say they have concluded their investigation and no charges will be laid.
They also said they would not provide further details about what happened on May 24 when a car carrying five collided with a HGV and then an SUV at a dual carriageway junction east of London.
“After a comprehensive review of all the evidence and circumstances, it has been determined that no charges will be laid in connection with this incident,” Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said this in a video posted on social media on Tuesday.
The deaths of Olivia Rourke, Rowan McLeod, Cadence Ford and Danica Baker, as well as their teacher Matt Eckert, have left their community heartbroken. A large memorial was held at Walkerton Area School a few days after the crash.
“The OPP would like to express our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this tragic event. Our thoughts remain with them at this time,” Sanchuk said.
The driver of the truck and two passengers in the SUV suffered minor injuries.
