Canada captain Alphonso Davies returned to action for Bayern Munich on Tuesday, his first appearance in 262 days since suffering a serious knee injury.
The 25-year-old from Edmonton came off the bench in the 88th minute in Bayern's 3-1 home win over Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon in a Champions League match at Allianz Arena.
Josip Stanisic started at left-back for Bayern against Portuguese champions Sporting, but Davies suggested on the Film Never Lies podcast on Monday that coach Vincent Kompany could bring him into the game.
“I'm not sure if I'll get minutes,” Davis said. “I mean, it depends on the coach.”
Davis replaced Germany international Serge Gnabry, one of Bayern's top scorers.
The left-back has not played since he was injured while playing for Canada against the United States in the CONCACAF Nations League third-place match in March. Davis tore a ligament and suffered other injuries in his right knee.
The injury prompted Bayern to criticize Team Canada, saying Davis did not receive proper medical examination for the injury before boarding his return flight to Germany.
