- Windows 11 has a new preview build
- It completely removes AI actions if you have disabled them all in File Explorer.
- This means that there will no longer be an empty folder in the context menu for disabled AI actions.
Windows 11 just got some changes for the better in terms of AI – although still only in testing – that clear up some of the confusion surrounding the AI action feature.
This functionality applies to Explorer right-click context menubut this is more of an enhancement to existing options than anything else (and I'll get to why later). Despite this, it will be well received; you can count on it.
Windows Center reported on Microsoft announces A simple but powerful change in the new Windows 11 Preview (Build 26220.7344): “If there are no AI actions available or enabled, this section will no longer appear in the context menu.”
This means that if there are no possible AI actions on any file you right-clicked, you will no longer see the (empty) folder related to said actions (or lack thereof).
AI actions include things like I ask the co-pilot to summarize a document or perform image editing tricks on photos (such as erasing an object using AI).
Analysis: a mysterious omission
Essentially, this avoids the weird situation where you go into Settings and turn off all AI actions, but the AI Actions option still shows up in the context menu – even if you hover your mouse over it, it's empty. Which of course didn't make any sense and is actually more of a fix than a feature.
Previously, you could disable these AI actions if you were interested, so this is not a new feature, although it is a relatively recent addition. Change here MicrosoftRemoving the “AI Actions” entry in the context menu if there are no AI shortcuts available, as noted.
It's all part of Microsoft intends to bring order to the Explorer context menuwhich is a welcome initiative.
