According to 9to5GoogleThe latest version of Android from Canary includes a new feature that should make it easier to switch between iPhone and Android devices. The corresponding feature on iPhone should appear in the upcoming iOS 26 update.
We I first wrote about this last yearwhen the EU forced Apple to make a series of concessions on how it tied customers to its products. One was the ability to completely remove Safari from iOS and allow browsers to use their own rendering engine (in the EU), and another, perhaps no longer EU-specific, was a feature to make it easier for iPhone and Android users to switch devices.
Google has Android switch app for iOS and Apple has Go to iOS app on Android, but a clearer, simpler and more reliable method is needed. Apple and Google are working together on a solution, and soon during the device setup process you'll be given the option to switch from an Android device or an iPhone.
We don't yet know what this feature looks like or how it works on iPhone or Android. But the idea has always been to move seamlessly between a user's main accounts, data such as photos and videos, and bookmarks. It's unclear whether things will go any further—moving from iPhone to Android or vice versa means moving passwords and access keys, digital wallet contents, and more. The new method reportedly provides support for transferring more types of data between devices than current transfer apps do.
