In 2022, the NHL Amateur Draft was held in Montreal. That's when the Habs drafted Juraj Slafkowski No. 1 and then stole the show with the trades of Alexander Romanov and Kirby Dach.
And that obviously contributed to the excitement of the fans who attended the session at the Bell Center.
At the same time, we also know that the NHL appreciated the result. In the summer we learned that the league wanted to regularly hold the draft in Montrealperhaps every two or three years. And in recent months this There have been rumors that the 2026 auction will be held in Montreal.
But of course, Jeff Molson and the Habs would have to agree to bring the event to town… and according to Eric Engels, Molson is interested.
He would be happy to do so, but notes that there have been no discussions with the league.
Jeff Molson said the Canadiens would be happy to hold a draft, but nothing has been discussed between him and the league about it.

However, it should be noted that NHL governors are currently meeting to discuss various topics, including the draft. I wonder if Molson is keep it secret so as not to scoop league, or whether he's telling the truth.
If it's the latter, it could be a bad sign for Montreal's chances. You would think the league would have discussed this with Montreal before such a meeting… especially since the league wanted to resolve this issue before the end of 2025.
However, even if the 2026 draft takes place in Montreal, the atmosphere will be different from what it was in 2022. For the second year in a row, the draft will be decentralized so that the 32 organizations will be located at their respective headquarters rather than in one building.
It wasn't a big success on TV last year: let's hope it's better this year, in Montreal or elsewhere.
We'll see if Montreal hosts the event, but will it come back with sure bet After last year's struggles, it would be a good idea for the NHL. The draft will take place on June 26 and 27.
