VANCOUVER – Vancouver Whitecaps FC sporting director and CEO Axel Schuster has been named Major League Soccer's Sporting Executive of the Year.
The award, announced on Monday, comes after the club lost 3-1 to Inter Miami in their first MLS Cup match on Saturday.
The Caps won their first Western Conference title and fourth straight Canadian Championship this season, while also earning a spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup finals.
Schuster's biggest move this year was the mid-August signing of German football legend Thomas Muller, adding a dynamic playmaker and charismatic character to a team that was already at the top of the Western Conference standings.
With Muller in the lineup, the Caps lost just two games, including Saturday's final.
Shuster, 53, has been playing for the Whitecaps since 2019.
