Immerse yourself in a post-apocalyptic water world in Waterpunk: Through the Rust
R_Games has announced that its upcoming game Waterpunk: Through the Rust will release in the first half of 2026. The game is already available on the Steam wishlist, and the official trailer offers an early look at the tense and atmospheric world the studio is building.
Waterpunk: Through the Rust is an action-adventure roguelike set in a post-apocalyptic water world. Here, the remnants of humanity survive in underwater shelters. Players take on the role of a volunteer sent to the surface to collect needed resources. Each expedition will take you through rusting platforms and abandoned structures while hostile machines roam above them, ready to strike. Each run gives you the opportunity to expand your abilities, collect valuable loot, and strengthen your skills.
Combat focuses on intensity and precision. Enemies hit hard and require quick reactions when moving in changing environments. The cycle of day and night shapes your strategy, as some abilities activate during the day while others reveal their true power after dark. Time moves forward on its own, so every choice matters.
The game features a large selection of weapons and gadgets that you can combine in countless combinations. Procedural generation ensures that levels, enemies, and rewards look fresh every time you venture out. Even failure plays a role in progress. Returning to your base will allow you to invest in long-term improvements that will gradually improve your chances during future attempts.
At the heart of the experience is a world changed by a war against unfeeling machines. With cities flooded and humanity inundated, each mission becomes part of a larger fight to reclaim what was lost and keep hope alive.
