Ducks snap Capitals’ six-game winning streak with shootout victory

ANAHEIM, California. Troy Terry and Mason McTavish scored goals in the shootout, and Anaheim Ducks clicked Washington CapitalsA six-game winning streak with a 4-3 win on Friday night.

Beckett Senneke led the NHL rookie in scoring with a goal and an assist for the Pacific Division-leading Ducks, who rebounded from a 7-0 loss to Utah on Wednesday with a much improved performance. Cutter Gauthier scored his 16th goal and Ross Johnston had a goal and an assist for Anaheim.

Logan Thompson made 34 saves in a standout performance for the Caps, who picked up a point from every stop on their three-game road trip to California despite losing for only the second time in 11 games. Tom Wilson, Ethen Frank and Aleksey Protas scored in regulation for the Caps, while Anthony Beauvillier scored in the shootout.

Ville Husso made 18 saves to break Frank's glove penalty streak.

After Wilson scored his 17th goal from the slot midway through the first period, Gauthier tied the game on a smart feed from Senneke.

Frank scored on a rebound early in the second period. Johnston equalized 13 seconds later by redirecting Radko Gudas' shot for the fourth-line player's second goal, but moments later Protas scored on a powerful rebound.

Senneke tied the game again late in the second with his eighth goal and 22nd point, both tops by a rookie.

Washington rookie Ryan Leonard did not return after his face was bloodied following an unpunished check on Jacob Trouba in the first period.

Mikael Granlund returned after missing 18 of the Ducks' previous 19 games with a lower-body injury.

With Charlie Lindgren injured, Washington's backup goaltender was Parker Milner, a 35-year-old retired minor league goaltender who occasionally practices with the Caps and who happened to be on the road trip with him.

Milner, Thompson's minor league teammate, now works as a food editor at The Post and Courier in Charleston, South Carolina. Before warming up, the Caps gave Milner the traditional one-on-one lap for players making their NHL debut.
