Vincent Kriechmayr of Austria found the fastest track in difficult conditions to win the World Cup super-G event on Friday, which was called for 31 riders because of strong winds in Beaver Creek, Colorado.
Kriechmayr completed the difficult Birds of Prey course in 1 minute 6.77 seconds, beating Norwegian driver Fredrik Møller by 0.56 seconds. Kriechmayr's Austrian teammate Rafael Haaser finished third.
Toronto's James Crawford was the top Canadian, finishing seventh, 1.30 seconds back.
Toronto's Jack Crawford is seventh out of 31 riders in the weather-shortened men's super-G in Colorado.
Von Allmen is out of action.
Franjo von Almen from Switzerland had a terrible accident as the 14th rider on the track, but managed to get back on his feet. Immediately after his race, the track was delayed and snow fell.
A few riders later, the race was stopped due to strong winds and then again due to Brazil's Lucas Pinheiro Braaten standing at the starting gate.
Finally, it was canceled for good.
Swiss alpine skier Franjo von Allmen was involved in a crash during the men's super-G competition at the Alpine Ski World Cup in Beaver Creek, Colorado.
“The race was pretty tough,” Krichmayr said. “The first 14 riders had the same conditions, but after the break and after Franjo’s accident – I hope he’s okay – it wasn’t so fair anymore. I must tell the truth. Of course, you want everyone to have the same conditions.”
Not a single rider was able to climb into the top 10 after the first delay.
Swiss standout Marco Odermatt, winner of last week's season-opening super-G at nearby Copper Mountain, struggled in poor light. He ended up in fifth place, 1.23 seconds behind Kriechmayr.
However, Odermatt extended his streak of top-10 World Cup super-G finishes to 26 races.
Odermatt won the downhill at Beaver Creek on Thursday. The finishing line of the race was moved uphill due to lack of snow below to allow the safety barriers to be installed correctly.
It was Kriechmayr's 19th World Cup victory. It was also his 24th World Cup podium in super-G, placing him joint with Stefan Eberharter in second place on the all-time list among Austrian men in the discipline. Hermann Mayer has the most: 38 times he finished on the World Cup podium in super-G.

The best American was River Radamus, who took 12th place. Ryan Cochran-Siegle finished in 13th place a day after finishing second in the downhill.
