If you’re clumsy, consider the surprisingly durable iPhone Air

When ex MobileSyrup writer Brad Bennett reviewed iPhone AirHe mentioned that it “feels as durable as any other iPhone,” but I think I'll disagree with my friend since during my experience with the iPhone Air, it feels even more durable than other iPhones I've used.

Ever since I got the iPhone Air, I've been using it as my daily driver, at least when I'm not reviewing other devices. The phone is very thin, and the 6.5-inch screen, although a little smaller than I'm used to, is a respectable size. However, what I've loved about using the iPhone Air so far is that it's surprisingly durable.

Unfortunately, I'm a clumsy guy, it's not that I fall a lot (although I had the most awkward fall while playing badminton the other day), it's that I drop things like crazy. Sometimes I don't notice that my phone is still plugged in and charging, and it will fall off when I move away from the desk. Things like this made me notorious in MobileSyrup as the employee who broke the most devices. And in this regard, I started buying cases almost immediately after receiving the review copy.

However, I wanted to see if the iPhone Air could stand up to my clumsy lifestyle and decided to use it without a case. I thought it was kind of a risk, but I'm here to test phones, so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. It's worth noting that I have not subjected the Air to proper drop testing and do not work on construction sites; I'm only talking about regular daily use. But after dropping the device a few times (most recently a pretty hard drop on concrete on the streets of Los Angeles), the worst thing that happened was scuff marks on the corners of the device. The screen didn't even scratch!

A close friend of mine who works in tech also told me a story about how they dropped an iPhone Air down the stairs and although they broke their toe, the iPhone Air was fine. “I fell, it flew out of my hands and flew down the stairs, I was sure the screen had broken, but only the edge broke off.”

To avoid another turning point, Apple made sure the iPhone Air was very durable. The durable Ceramic Shield 2 design and titanium body make the phone incredibly durable. Even the prolific JerryRigEverything gave the iPhone Air a pass in a durability test and found that the device could withstand about 216 pounds of pressure before breaking. It even performed well during the scratch test.

The iPhone Air isn't a perfect phone, but I really liked it. And the nice thing is that whenever I drop my phone, I sometimes don't even feel the need to check to see if the screen is cracked because I know it isn't.

Surprisingly, Apple's thinnest phone is definitely designed for clumsy people like me. And I love that I can show off this beautiful phone without having to store it just in case – which is probably the majority of people who have noticed my phone, not counting the foldable ones.
