QUEBEC — The Quebec Liberals have lost another member of their caucus as the crisis within the party shows no signs of abating.
The Liberals announced Thursday that Montreal assemblywoman Sona Lahoian Olivier has been expelled because she is under investigation by Quebec's ethics commissioner.
In a statement, the ethics commissioner's office said the investigation will try to determine whether Lahoian Olivier used her constituency office resources in the Liberal leadership race.
Lahoyan Olivier wrote on social media Thursday that she has always followed the rules and will fully cooperate with the ethics investigation.
Earlier this week, Liberal leader Pablo Rodriguez expelled his former parliamentary leader from his caucus.
He said Marwa Rizki lacked loyalty to him and the party when she fired her tent boss last month without consulting him.
Lajoyan Olivier is linked to a report published two weeks ago in the Journal de Montréal that cited text messages exchanged by unnamed senders suggesting members could receive a monetary reward for supporting Rodriguez.
Montreal radio station 98.5 FM named Lahoyan Olivier as one of the two people behind the text messages, but it denied the claim and sent a formal letter to station owner Kodjeko.
The Canadian Press has not verified the authenticity of the text messages.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 5, 2025.
