If you've read anything new Starz row Spartacus: House of Ashura, you will know that this is a real blood festival. However, if you watched the original Spartacuswhich aired in 2010-2013, you already know that.
Although we thought he was dead, Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay) was resurrected to continue the series 12 years later. He was essentially given a second chance at life and became the franchise's most unlikely anti-hero.
Spartacus: In “House of Ashur” there were no actors who would “look into each other’s eyes”, as there was in the Starz prequel, the star says
“There’s another generation coming into this,” Tarbay says of House of Ashura. “When we started in 2009, things were a little tougher, a little more complicated. Now we come to a new generation, new and younger gladiators, and there is a different feeling. People are a little nicer to each other, which is nice, but I'm not used to it.”
“When we started the original Spartacusthere was a lot of testosterone there. Fights took place behind the scenes. We saw each other's faces, but it translated very well on screen. So it was too nice to work with new actors. I'm not used to this!
“I was like, 'Okay, as long as it works.' Part of me wanted to tell them to get it together, but it ended up working out really well. The generation gap was definitely an education.”
If Spartacus: House of Ashura was the result of peace on set, I would hate to see what would have happened if the gladiators had actually been at each other's throats. However, I think I'll just have to rewatch the original seasons to see for myself – something Tarabay advises me to do as the interview continues.
