New story trailer Dawn of War 4 has just been revealed, showcasing the Dark Angels as a playable subgroup and teasing the old and broke Lion El Johnson, who seems to actually be hanging around his kids this time.
The trailer also gives us further context as to why the game's four factions have returned to Kronus, with Blood Ravens and Orcs fighting like old times while the Adeptus Mechanicus explore the tombs of the Necrons. We see many new units in the series, including the motorcycle-mounted Chaplan, Necron Skorpekh Destroyers, and the Ork Beast Boss.
Interestingly, Lion El Johnson wears a helmet at the tail of the trailer, which may have prevented some from noticing his presence in the trailer. However, given that we see his shield in full view, it's definitely him!
We also now know that Dawn of War 4's campaign was written by Black Library author John French. He has written numerous Warhammer books over the years. This includes books dedicated to Ahriman, the first captain of the Legion of a Thousand Suns. Fans have long had a theory that the Blood Ravens are the successors to the Thousand Sons, so who knows? Maybe John French can throw in a few breadcrumbs.
Other interesting tidbits from the trailer include the fact that Warlord Gorgutz is still alive and well. This makes sense since Orcs were canonically the victors of Dawn of War: Soulstorm, so Orcs were still hanging around the place. Ironically, the Necrons were also fleshed out a bit.
During the campaign, players will be able to choose between Dark Angels and Blood Ravens missions, allowing for a choice based on which Space Marine faction you're most aligned with. According to the official story trailer press release, these missions are “non-linear.”
Dawn of War 4 is scheduled to release in 2026, but you can add it to your wishlist now! If you want to get an idea of what it is, why not read our Dawn of War 4 preview. In it, writer Chris Tapsell stated, “This feels like the sequel to the original that real-time strategy fans have always wanted.”
