Wreckreation maker Three Fields Entertainment puts whole studio on redundancy notice

Three Fields Entertainment, founded by the creators of Burnout and recently launched open-world racing game Wreckreation, has notified its entire staff that they are facing layoffs.

CEO Fiona Sperry made the announcement. post on LinkedIn. The studio released Wreckreation in October, but Sperry said Three Fields “will not receive any revenue from game sales for the foreseeable future.” Wreckreation's Steam player count peaked at 199 in October, according to SteamDB.

Although the game was published by THQ Nordic, Sperry said Three Fields resorted to self-funding for “most of this year,” including investing money to support post-launch content.

“Without the passion and financial support from our publisher to continue development, we simply cannot support the studio in its current form. Making this decision was incredibly painful,” Sperry wrote.

“This is a heartbreaking moment for all of us. What makes things even more complicated is that we have so many things in development—lots of features, updates, and creative ideas that we were excited to bring to the game, many of which are showcased in the video we're sharing today. We truly believed that these things would continue to strengthen Wrecreation and expand its community.

“I hope that by showing this work publicly, someone will also be able to see this potential and perhaps the opportunity may still arise. But even if that hope doesn't materialize, we want it to be a testament to our vision and the strength, passion and skills of our small team. I truly believe in the potential of this game and the talent of the people who created it.”

Three Fields Entertainment was founded in Hampshire in 2014 by Fiona Sperry and Alex Ward.. Previously a couple co-founder of Burnout developer Criterionwhere Ward served as creative director for most of the Burnout games.

Previous Three Fields games include Dangerous Golf, Lethal Zone and Danger Zone.
