Sarah Paulson Reads Texts Late Diane Keaton Sent Her

Sarah Paulson took a moment to pay tribute the late and beloved Diane Keaton.

At The Hollywood Reporter's annual Women in Entertainment Gala on December 3, the “Everything Is Fair” star read some of the messages Keaton sent her: some funny, some candid and some thoughtful.

Keaton died at the age of 79 on October 11th. bacterial pneumonia.

Paulson began by revealing how she knew Keaton for about 15 years after the late star played her mother in The Other Sister. Recalling the warm welcome she received from her, Paulson delved into emails, text messages and voice notes, which she described as “really something.”

– Dude, what's your address? Paulson started it how the audience laughed. “6:30, Diane Keaton, actress… I want to see you and your house, idiot. When's the date? Dee. Sarah, I hate your phone. It's always full and I can never leave a message.”

The harsh and short messages continued, and Keaton tried her best to meet with Paulson.

“When did you get back? Just recently you sent me an email but it disappeared. Don't ask why, don't ask what I did, I've been a loser for a long time,” another message read.

In another text, Keaton applauded Paulson after watching one of her films.

“Sarah, I watched your movie last night. Your acting is great and you look great. I tried to leave a message but your voicemail was full as usual,” Paulson read. “As usual, I called, as usual, your mailbox is full. As usual, I don't want to text. As usual, I want to see your face. As usual, I'm leaving town, or you're leaving town, it's business as usual.”

Keaton also reflected on her harsh messages, writing, according to Paulson: “We're so lucky. Do you like being an actress? I don't. Are you happy enough? Dee.”

After a few more messages, Paulson concluded her speech by sharing a letter she'd like to send to the “Annie Hall” star.

“Dear Dum Dum, I want to tell you that I'm sorry that my voicemail was always full,” she said, becoming emotional. “I want to tell you that I wish I was available every time you called me. I want to tell you how much messier the world is without you. I want to tell you everything that has happened in my life in the 54 days since you've been gone.”

She continued, “I want to tell you how the world went crazy with grief the day you died. And I want to tell you, I will miss you forever, and I continue to be an idiot, and I know you would be happy to know that. But most of all, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for being my friend, Sarah Paulson, the actress.”

Wiping away tears, she added, “Please call.”

Paulson was accompanied on stage by Goldie Hawn, who also had a heartfelt and emotional tribute to her “First Wives Club” co-star.
