“The Charlie Kirk Show” producer Blake Neff criticized podcaster Candace Owens on Wednesday for claiming Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk was “betrayed” by high-ranking members of the conservative student group, saying TPUSA would provide a detailed response to her claims on air.
Authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in the early morning hours of September 12th. accusing him from fatal shooting Kirk during a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University. Owens published On Tuesday X, she said she would “name names and provide evidence” to support her allegations, which implicated French paratroopers, the Egyptian military and TPUSA leadership. “There's a topic that's been flooding our inbox over the last two and a half months about freedom, something that's been discussed constantly on social media, but which we've avoided almost entirely on this show,” Neff said. “You probably already know what I'm talking about, and it shows how pervasive this has been. Since Charlie's murder, Candace Owens has made a torrent of accusations against the people at Turning Point USA, the people at Turning Point Action, and the people who work for that show. She's made them against some of Charlie's closest friends and against some of his most loyal employees.”
After listing a number of allegations against Owens, including financial improprieties, Neff responded.
LOOK:
“Candace has essentially branded everyone here as complicit in Charlie's death, repeatedly stating that he 'betrayed everyone.' She said Charlie's murder “must have been approved by Charlie's friends,” and then suggested those friends might have killed her, too, “for 'knowing the truth,'” Neff said. “She claimed that financial irregularities and fraud at Turning Point amounted to millions of dollars, which, again, is not true. Charlie ensured that the organization was audited by a third party every year. He personally reviewed and signed off on every expense report and literally every invoice paid by the organization, down to the dollar.”
Listing even more allegations, Neff said Owens' allegations have led to more serious harassment than from people who celebrated Kirk's murder.
“What our friends went through is not funny, and that's not insignificant. It's evil. I've seen it. Over the course of several months, we received hundreds, thousands, I suspect, of letters and calls asking for answers. People wanted us to bring Candace on the show, but for a long time our approach was to say nothing. We did this for several reasons,” Neff said. “First of all, we thought that her evasions were so absurd that no one would believe them. We should not answer questions about secret tunnels or Egyptian Air Force planes. Such things are fair; answering them is beneath contempt.”
“The second reason we said so little is because there is a good rule of thumb that Charlie followed. Don't feed the trolls. Focus on the mission: revive America, inspire young people, keep heaven crowded, don't give air to people who want to tear you down and sow discord,” Neff said. “Finally, we didn't respond because Charlie always considered Candice a friend and we hoped she would respond to our friendship and stop what she was doing, but in a week it will be three months since Charlie was killed. Candace has not changed her behavior.” (RELATED: Parents speak out against tearful school board member who compared US turning point to KKK at loud meeting)
Neff said TPUSA would host a livestream to refute the allegations and invited Owens to participate. Owens responded to TPUSA's statement during Wednesday's meeting. episode from her podcast.
“I’m not a troll,” Owens said. “OK? I'm not a troll. I'm not a troll, I'm not one of those people who hated Turning Point and wanted Turning Point to fail. In fact, I'm the complete opposite of that, and that's why people believe in me and trust me, because they feel like I'm the only one doing the right thing in a situation.”
“Who wouldn’t want every stone turned over if they cared about someone?” Owens asked. “Who wouldn’t want an answer to every question?”
TPUSA did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation or announce a date or time for the livestream.
