NEW YORK — The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes an end-of-year gift for data and marketing enthusiasts: Spotify wrapped Here! And a Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny was named the most popular artist for the fourth time, dethroning Taylor Swift.
On Wednesday, streaming giant presented its annual survey of individual listening trends, as well as trends from around the world. Users can now access their top artists, songs, genres, albums and podcasts, and see which artists have had the most successful year on the platform.
The reggaeton artist and then some became the most streamed artist in the world in 2025, earning more than 19.8 billion streams. Followed by Fast, The Weeknd, Drake and Billie Eilish, in that order.
Over the past two years, Swift took first place worldwide – claiming it in 2023 and holding it until 2024 – dethroning Bad Bunny. He bore the coveted title three years in a row, starting in 2020. Now he's back on top.
In the US, the list of the most popular artists looks similar, with Swift leading the way, followed by Drake, Morgan Wallen and Kendrick Lamar. Bad Bunny is in fifth place.
The most popular album in the world, of course, was the Bad Bunny album. “I should have taken more photographs” followed by soundtrack to the series “KPop Demon Hunters” and three 2024 releases: Billie Eilish's “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” SZA's “SOS Deluxe: LANA” and Sabrina Carpenter's “Short n' Sweet,” in that order.
In the US the situation is slightly different. Most listened to album – Wallen “I am the problem.” followed by SZA, Bad Bunny, the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack and Lamar's GNX.
Globally, the most popular song title belongs to Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga's collaboration “Die with a Smile”, which has amassed over 1.7 billion streams. Then there are Eilish's “Birds of a Feather”, “Mars” and Rose “APT”, “Ordinary” by Alex Warren and “DtMF” by Bad Bunny.
Lamar and SZA's “Luther” was the most played song in the US, followed by “Die with a Smile”, “Ordinary”, “Birds of a Feather” and in fifth place was Lamar and Lefty Gunplay's “TV Off”.
As every year, there are several new features. These include the introduction of Top Albums, a fan leaderboard showing users where they rank in an artist's streams, an Age of Listening feature that compares a user's streaming habits to their age preferences, and more.
There is also something called “Wrapped Party”, an interactive feature that allows users to compare their Wrapped with other Spotify users.
These additions are a change from last year, when some Spotify users complained on social media that Wrapped, which undergoes design changes every year, was minimalist in 2024. They said it lacks previous features such as “Top Cities”, “Audio Auras” and “Best Genres” The latter was restored in 2025.
Other features that will be overhauled in 2025 include Top Songs, which will now allow users to see how many times they've streamed their top 100 tracks, and the Top Songs Quiz.
The world's biggest artists continue to dominate Spotify Wrapped. And it's no surprise – they feature prominently on the streaming service, including on its highly influential playlists, and boast a dedicated and dedicated fanbase. Independent artists who may appear on an individual listener's Wrapped will require billions of streams to gain access to the top spot on the global list.
According to the Recording Industry Association of America, streaming accounts for the majority of money generated by the music industry—84% in the United States.
Spotify is the biggest platform in total, representing approximately 31% of the total market share, with 713 million registered users and 281 million subscribers in more than 180 markets. That's up from 626 million users and 246 million subscribers at this time last year, respectively.
