Jimmy Kimmel will receive the President's Award from the International Cinematographers Guild (ICG), IATSE Local 600. The late-night host will be honored at the guild's awards luncheon on March 13 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.
The award is presented to the laureate only in exceptional cases. In a press release, ICG publicists said they “decided to bestow this rare honor on Kimmel in recognition of his strength of character, his resilience and his unwavering commitment to principle in the face of adversity.”
John Lindley, ASC, ICG National President, said, “We are thrilled to present this award to Jimmy Kimmel, whose return to the airwaves meant so much to his audience and whose presence at the International Cinematographers Guild Awards means so much to us.” Lindley added: “He has supported his staff and team throughout his suspension and we commend him for his dedication to his job and his team.”
Kimmel is the host and executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Earlier this year, Kimmel was benched by ABC after Brendan CarrChairman of the Federal Communications Commission, threatened to punish the network for comments made by the host in the monologue.
Previous recipients of the ICG President's Award include Nancy Ryder,
legendary publicist and ALS activist; PR manager Cheryl Boone Isaac, who later served as
35th President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS); and executive
producer Linda Bell Blue in recognition of her twenty years of experience at Entertainment Tonight.
