You can't make this up. Yesterday Microsoft released an update for Windows 11 that should improve dark mode is more consistentand dialog boxes in Explorer finally get a dark mode for actions like copying, moving, or deleting files and folders. You get all of this, but Microsoft will also give you a giant white flash every time you open File Explorer.
“After installing KB5070311, you may experience problems opening File Explorer in dark mode,” Microsoft admits in the known issues section of its new Windows 11 update. “You may briefly see a blank white screen in the window before loading files and folders.”
The white flash is like a flashbang if you're working in the dark with dark mode enabled, and Microsoft says it's currently working on a solution to this problem. If you don't want to wait for the official fix, you can also use Maud Windhock to return File Explorer's dark mode to normal mode.
It's surprising that Microsoft didn't catch this very obvious bug in testing, especially since the company has committed to providing a more “consistent dark mode” overall across Windows 11. Run Dialog Box Dark mode is also coming to Windows 11, as well as improvements to progress bar and chart views, as well as confirmation and error dialogs.
