Cyberpunk 2077 has undergone a long and steady evolution since its troubled debut. CD Projekt has spent years improving systems, improving performance, and expanding features. These efforts ultimately led to the creation of Phantom Liberty, a major turning point that introduced new characters, new storylines, and new energy to the overall gameplay. Post-launch updates continued to change the game, enriching combat, progression, and exploration. A detailed photo mode and extensive gameplay improvements have helped the game gain new momentum and a strong reputation.
The studio's behind-the-scenes transformation mirrored the rebuilding of the game itself. The development teams were reorganized and new plans were formed for the future of the Cyberpunk universe. Work on Cyberpunk 2 is underway at CD Projekt's offices in Warsaw, Vancouver and Boston. The company recently confirmed that it now has 135 people working on it, while the wider organization is focused primarily on The Witcher 4. CD Projekt plans to increase the Cyberpunk 2 development team to more than 300 people by 2027. In parallel with this project, the company is also developing a multiplayer mode for The Witcher under a new original IP codename. Hadara remake of the original The Witcher, and is preparing another game based on its own catalog.
