Lane Kiffin will be the team's next head coach. LSU Tigersbut he won't finish the 2025 season with the Ole Miss Rebels, despite helping them reach the College Football Playoff.
But as part of his new contract with the Tigers, it looks like Kiffin will be paid for the Rebels' success if they try to win a national title.
LSU reportedly agreed to pay Kiffin the same bonuses he was set to receive with Ole Miss if they make the CFP, according to reports. on Nola.com. If the Rebels made the final bracket selected by the CFP committee, Kiffin was going to receive $150,000 for it from Ole Miss just for playing a game in the first round.

Moreover, Kiffin was set to earn $250,000 if the team made the quarterfinals, $500,000 for reaching the semifinals, and a whopping $750,000 if the team made the quarterfinals. Ole Miss qualified for the national championship.
If Ole Miss won the title game, Kiffin was set to receive $1 million.

Although Kiffin made the decision to head to Baton Rouge next season, he really wanted to finish the season as the Rebels' head coach, no matter how far they made it in the playoffs. But he pointed the finger at Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter, who he said rejected a request to stay at Ole Miss for the remainder of the season.
“We went through a lot last night with Keith Carter, trying to find a way to make this playoffs work and be able to coach the team. And at the end of the day, it's his decision and I completely respect that. I understand the decision,” Kiffin. told ESPN about Carter's decision not to allow him to finish his season as Rebels coach.
“I just wish the team luck, I wish I was the coach… I just hope they play really well and win the national championship.”

Kiffin said he spoke with college football coaching legends Pete Carroll and Nick Saban before deciding to head to Baton Rouge.
“My heart was here. But I talked to some of the coaches—Coach Carroll, Coach Saban. Especially when Coach Carroll said, “Your dad would tell you to leave. Take a shot.”
“I always hated the way we gave Tennessee one year and left. I hated this feeling. I think we gave a lot to this program and this city, and some of those historic wins in this stadium, to the best regular season in school history. So, I'm proud of this part. But the time has come. I talked to God and he told me it was time to take a new step. This is a new chapter.”
Ole Miss defensive coordinator Pete Golding was named head coach to replace Kiffin in Oxford.

Details of Kiffin's new contract with LSU have begun to emerge, and he is reportedly set to make $13 million per season with the Tigers, making him the second-highest paid college coach in the country behind Kirby Smart from Georgia.
However, the report also mentions that if Kiffin leads the Tigers to a national title, the escalator in his contract will make him the highest-paid coach.
