Some Fido stores match Koodo’s $40/60GB CAN/US/MEX deal

Telus Koodo brand launched a 40/60 GB bring-your-own (BYOP) phone in Canada, the US and Mexico. plan on Black Fridayand over the weekend, some customers were able to score a similar deal with Rogers' Fido.

Neither Fido nor Bell's Virgin Plus have officially come out with an offer competing with Koodo's Black Friday deal, but Fido was reportedly offering a similar plan at select retail locations. Per details are posted on the Red Flag Deals forum.some shoppers in British Columbia and Ontario were able to get the offer in stores, as well as some third-party retailers such as Best buy, WalmartAnd Mobile store.

Fido's deal offers 60GB of 4G data for $40 per month, plus calls, texts and data in Canada, the US and Mexico. Because the deal is only available in stores, shoppers are forced to pay an $80 connection fee, but several people said they were able to bypass that fee. For example, some customers received a $5/month credit for 16 months to cover connection fees, while some third-party retailers reportedly covered connection fees in other ways.

It's also worth noting that Fido's plan only includes 4G data, while Koodo offers faster 5G. Otherwise, both deals look about the same. Moreover, some Koodo customers managed to get an additional $10 per month discount on the planresulting in the cost being reduced to 30/60 GB.

Overall, your mileage here will vary. It's unclear how widely available the Fido offer or the $10/month discount on the Koodo plan is. Koodo is still offering the 40/60GB plan on its website, but it lists December 1st as the last day of the promotion. If you can't get the plan from Kudo or Fido today, it will disappear.

However, if you live in a Freedom Mobile coverage area, you may have more options. Freedom has a 5G plan for Canada, the US and Mexico that costs 39GB/70GB.and while the carrier's deals also end on December 1, before Black Friday this plan cost $39 for 60GB. While we don't yet know if it will return to the 39/60GB price, there's a chance it could.

And finally Public Mobile has a 5G plan for Canada, the US and Mexico that costs 40/70GB. with 20GB bonus data for six months. This deal also ends today, but if you don't have any luck with Koodo or Fido, Public at least runs on the same network as Koodo and should offer very similar services. (I've been using Public Mobile for about a year now and haven't had any problems with it compared to Koodo.)
