“Where the hell did that goblin go?” asks some dastardly knight whose English accent is of questionable authenticity at the start of the film's latest trailer. Styx: Blades of Greed. This is a reasonable question! When was there a stealth game about goblins? revealed earlier this yearit was scheduled for release in 2025, but is sorely missed by the end of the year. As such, this trailer acts as a double-edge: confirming the delay and announcing a firm release date.
Luckily, if you like being a little goblin who secretly stabs people, you won't have to wait long as the game is scheduled to release on February 19, 2026, which is just over a couple of months from now. According to Steam News Postwritten from Styx's own perspective, “The developers will need a few extra months to polish everything, tweak the parts that need work, and make sure my grand return is as great (and chaotic) as it deserves to be. A much more edgy adventure. Worthy of slipping back into my slightly dirty, perfectly stylish boots.”
This is the first new Styx in several years, since the last part of the series, Shards of Darkness, was released back in 2017. It's just as good as it was a lifetime ago! I have to admit that this is not a series I've ever worked with, although after writing this I discovered that I actually have the second series on Steam. I'm guessing it ended up in some kind of package given the complete lack of memory to acquire it, although that seems quite appropriate given the treacherous nature of the games.
If you've never been part of Styx's life, it takes place in developer Cyanide Studio. About orcs and people world. As Styx, you'll have to crawl and crawl through the shadows, using bizarre magical abilities to defeat your enemies. It looks like in Blades of Greed you'll be able to slow down time, use what's supposedly a force push, or perform some kind of mind control to make a guy walk off the edge of a tall building and fall on top of it, you know. Painful! But these are video games.
If any of this interests you, you can wishlist Styx: Blades of Greed on Steam ahead of its release next year.
