President Donald Trump said one of the National Guardsmen shot and killed in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday is “fighting for his life.”
When asked reporter Sunday on Air Force One if he spoke to the family of 24-year-old Andrew Wolf, one of the National Guardsmen shot, Trump said he “spoke to both families.” Trump also added that Wolf's “parents are incredibly wonderful people” who want everyone to pray for their son.
“Have you spoken to Andrew Wolfe’s family and can you give us an update?” – asked the reporter.
“I've talked to both families,” Trump responded. “Well, I mean, I can give you an update: they're devastated. Does that make sense to you?”
“Sure,” the reporter responded, asking, “Can you give us an update on Andrew Wolfe’s condition?”
In response, Trump said that 20-year-old US Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, one of the West Virginia National Guardsmen who was shot, was “no longer with us.” On Thursday Trump general that Bäckström had died.
“Andrew is fighting for his life,” Trump added. “His parents are incredibly wonderful people, very religious people. And they pray, and they want everyone to pray for Andrew. He has a chance to succeed.”
Trump went on to describe Wolf's parents as “very positive people.”
Shooting that left three people dead puts the White House on lockdown, Breitbart News reported.
During a press conference Thursday, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro identified Beckstrom and Wolfe as shot National Guardsmen. Pirro also said they were sworn in less than a day before Wednesday's attack.
Breitbart News reported that the suspect in the attack was 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan citizen. Lacanwal reportedly entered the United States as part of former President Joe Biden's Operation Allies Welcome program.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe also disclosed that Lakanwal was working with the agency “as a member of a partner force in Kandahar, Afghanistan.”
