“Zootopia 2” had record box office receipts.
The Walt Disney Co.'s “Animal City” sequel brought in $96 million in North America over the weekend, earned $156 million over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday and earned a staggering $556 million worldwide since its opening on Wednesday, the studio estimated Sunday.
This made it the highest international opening of an animated film ever, the fourth-highest global opening of any kind, and the top international opening of 2025.
“Wicked: For Good” remained strong in its second weekend for Universal Pictures, earning another $62.8 million domestically over the weekend for a total of $270.4 million in North America. The second half of the “Wicked” saga brought in $393 million internationally.
A pair of sequels have teamed up to make Thanksgiving weekend a bright exception to a dismal year in theaters.
“Zootopia 2” comes almost ten years after the original, a hit that exceeded all expectations and brought in $75 million in domestic sales in March.
Like the first, it features a duet between rabbit cop Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and little fox Nick Wilde ( Jason Bateman ).
