Since this is a holiday movie, Macaulay was asked about his favorite holiday movies, but his list received some outrage due to him not including one favorite movie.
According to People, Macaulay said audience: “An important event in our family when we were growing up was A Christmas StoryOf course, it was always on. A lost classic or one that people seem to forget: Scrooge… Scrooge it's cool though. Yes, we watch this all the time. Those were the ones that really stood out.”
Macaulay also shared other holiday movies he liked, but he didn't call them his absolute favorites.
He said: “There are those that will appear later. Elf really good, but I wasn't raised on Elfso there's no nostalgia factor to it. And also, okay guys, for real: Die Hard This is not a Christmas movie.”
The crowd reportedly began booing, prompting Macaulay to defend his position. “I know,” he said. “Some of you guys want to fight me. I'll meet you at the loading dock, but it's just a movie set at Christmas. If you shoot it on St. Patrick's Day, it's exactly the same movie.”
He added that Home alone would still work even if it was set on St. Patrick's Day.
Macaulay's comments come amid years of debate over whether Die Hard could be called a Christmas movie. Some argue that this is the case due to the holiday setting and the use of holiday music. Others, however, insist otherwise, as the story has nothing to do with Christmas. Even Bruce Willis has it said This is not a Christmas movie.
But what do YOU think? Is Die Hard Christmas movie or not? Share your thoughts in the comments.
