JoJo Swa said she was briefly hospitalized before her performance in Minnesota on Friday due to “excruciating” abdominal pain.
In a TikTok post on Saturday, the singer recounted the ordeal, which happened hours before his performance at the Mall of America.
“Long story short, every time I danced for the last few days or even just walked, my stomach hurt really, really bad,” Siwa said.
“And I don't know why, but it just sort of went away and I thought, 'Oh, maybe it's that time of the month, maybe it's the cramps, I don't know.'
Siwa tried to “calm” the pain by taking a warm bath, but this only made the symptoms worse. “It made the situation 100 times worse,” Siwa said, adding that her mother eventually told her to call an ambulance.
When paramedics arrived, her vital signs were “normal,” but a subsequent trip to the hospital revealed the source of Siwa’s pain: “There was a cyst on one of my ovaries that had burst and was bleeding into my stomach.”
“So that’s what was causing the excruciating pain—every time the blood in the stomach moves, it’s bleeding in the stomach,” Siwa added. “It's like a terrible pain, in short, [it] should rotate on its own. It should stop on its own.”
Thanks to painkillers, Siwa was still able to perform at the Mall of America, although she needs to undergo a follow-up examination in a week.
“We'll keep pushing, and if I throw up or if I have excruciating pain again, I have to go back immediately, but we'll be fine,” Siwa said.
