- Ring of Fire: Prometheus enters open beta in China
- The story hints at a crumbling world, a wandering girl, and a spark of human resilience.
- No global release yet
Some projects come with cinematic trailers, bullet points and enough jargon to fill a conference room. Ring of Fire: Prometheus does none of this. Instead, it hands you a piece of dark fantasy, asks some philosophical questions about eternity, and throws you into a world that seems to be falling apart at the seams. It's vague but interesting.
It's currently in open beta in China, and to be honest, the tone is doing most of the heavy lifting. The teaser text reads like the first pages of a dark fantasy novel: a girl wanders through a collapsing world, disasters are approaching and a creeping shadow is consuming everything in the world. I have no idea how this will translate into actual gameplay, but as far as atmosphere goes, they're committed.
And since there's so little concrete information, you'll end up having to fill in the gaps yourself. Perhaps it's a role-playing game. Perhaps it's narrative-oriented. Perhaps this is something completely unexpected. All we really know is that underneath all the ruins, the mood is heavy, a little poetic and strangely hopeful.
It actually gives it a refreshing perspective. You're not promised over 50 heroes or the world on the verge of collapse for the thousandth time; you are asked a question. Strangely big. This alone makes Prometheus stand out from the crowd of mobile RPGs where everything is usually eye-catching.
Is this enough to achieve a global release? It's hard to say. The open beta remains China-centric, and we've seen plenty of ambitious projects that will remain regional forever. But if this film ever does take the leap, it already has the sort of atmospheric hook that could attract a following.
For now, we can only watch and wonder what exactly is hidden behind all the smoke and poetry. And if you can't wait to play something right now, our list best role-playing games on Android there are many worlds that do not require existential philosophy to begin with.
