Milk recalled because of contamination with cleaning fluid

Prairie Farms is announcing a recall of select gallons of Prairie Farms skim milk produced at its Dubuque, Iowa plant and distributed at Woodman stores in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Some products may contain food-grade cleaners that may cause illness if consumed. Only a specific segment of the DEC08 production cycle will be affected.

The affected product was processed between 17:51 and 21:23, which is part of that day's production. To ensure complete containment, Prairie Farms is recalling a gallon of skim milk with date code DEC08 and plant code PLT19-145 produced between 5:51 p.m. and 9:23 p.m.

On November 24, Prairie Farms became aware of a potential quality issue. An investigation was immediately launched which resulted in the affected product being removed from stores and a recall being initiated.

About 320 gallons were sold before the problem was discovered. Consumers who purchased the product with the code dates listed above should not consume it; they can safely dispose of it or return it to the store for a refund. All remaining affected merchandise has been removed from store shelves.
