God of War and Half-Life fans huff the hopium side-by-side as Geoff Keighley shares cryptic tease – Destructoid

The entire gaming industry is just a farce: a place where people gather not to play games, but to hope for new ones. They are a bunch of tinfoil hatters who predict, decipher, huff and puff on hopium. And this time it's HL And GoW fans do it together.

After Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards, shared two mysterious images depicting some kind of demonic portal and desert in the middle of nowhere, fans quickly created a stir. For what? Nobody seems to know, but some think it's new God of War game that will be announced at the upcoming TGA.

There's plenty of evidence for this: the portal features various fantasy creatures reminiscent of the last two games, and the chest piece it wears is strikingly similar to the one Kratos wears in God of War: Ragnarok. The portal largely belongs to the fantasy genre, which is difficult to associate with Half life. But that didn't stop his eager fans.

Moving on to the second image Jeff shared, which is just a desert in California (which, oddly enough, has the name of the road running through it – Yucca Mesa Road). Half life fans are convinced that this is proof that the hot desert HLX will be announced at The Game Awards. I mean, Half life starts in the desert and at a facility called Black Mesa, so everything is crystal clear? Right? May be. Probably not, though.

Geoff Keighley is known for sharing images that look strangely like various games. This is usually done to create excitement and buzz at annual events such as Summer Games Fest or The Game Awards. Sometimes these are real hints of what's to come, but usually the end result is something completely different than what fans imagined.

HL fans are very willing to believe in anything and grasp at any straw they can get their hands on, considering how many the hype was created for Half-life 3 in previous weeks. This hypothetical final game in the series, created 27 years ago, has not been talked about since. HL2 Episode 2 is out, so I can understand the fans who are desperate to bring closure to one of the most exciting events in the history of the industry.

The Game Awards, like every year, will certainly bring us a lot of good announcements. Whether it becomes new God of War or Half life (or even both) we can only guess. But I think it's safe to say that no, Jeff didn't just show us these two games.

Or maybe he did?
