Yesterday was a very busy day in the National Hockey League as we head into the US Thanksgiving weekend.
Yesterday there were 15 games on the schedule, meaning only two teams in the entire league didn't play.
Here's what we can take away from this busy day of hockey.
1. Crazy scene with Kyle Palmieri
It was the most incredible sequence I've ever seen in the New York Islanders' 4-3 penalty shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers yesterday.
Trailing 3-0 in the second period, the Islanders saw forward Kyle Palmieri get hurt on the boards in the offensive zone.
Palmieri looked poorly and struggled to return to the bench.
However, just before leaving the ice, Palmieri manages to take the puck from a Flyers defenseman on one leg and then pass it back to Jonathan Drouin.
The game continued and Emil Heinemann hit the back of the net with a superb shot.
Kyle Palmieri, injured on the boards, stole the puck on his way to the bench, made an assist and went to the locker room.

So Palmieri made the assist and limped to his bench and then to the locker room.
This is an absolutely insane episode that deserves to be watched over and over again and is sure to go down as one of the best games of the year.
2. Elias Pettersson scores goal of the year
The Vancouver Canucks are in trouble again this season, heading straight for the wall rather than the playoffs.
At the very least, if there is one positive to come out of this Canucks season, it is that Elias Pettersson appears to be back in form as he is putting up decent numbers again.
Pettersson has 22 points, including eight goals, in 25 games.
And yesterday he showed off all his talent by scoring the goal of the year against the San Jose Sharks.

A superb goal that combines a layup shot with a superb mid-flight recovery of the puck while spinning.
In short, Pettersson is confident, but that doesn't stop the Canucks from losing like they did yesterday in a 3-2 loss to the Sharks.
3. Matthew Schaefer continues to impress
I already mentioned the Islanders-Flyers game with Kyle Palmieri, but I'll come back to it to talk about Matthew Schaefer.
The Islanders' rookie defenseman has been impressive this season, dominating at just 18 years old.
He may have been the No. 1 overall pick in the last draft, but he really gives hockey fans pause.
Yesterday he scored his 8th goal of the season and added an assist, joining Ivan Demidov and Beckett Senneke for the top rookie scoring spot with 18 points.

The eight goals are good for the leading rookie scorer, ahead of Oliver Kapanen and Beckett Senneke's seven, and the most for a defenseman under 20 after his first 25 NHL games.

In short, Schaefer is truly impressive and is clearly the current favorite to win the Calder Trophy, awarded to rookie of the year.
4. Mason McTavish and the Ducks are having fun
If there's a surprise team in the NHL this season, it's the Anaheim Ducks, who are performing far beyond expectations.
Indeed, the Ducks have been playing excellent hockey this season, and their first place in the Pacific Division is well deserved and not due to luck.
In fact, they defended their top spot in style last night with a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Kings, who are currently in second place in the Pacific Division.
The Ducks trailed the entire game but always found a way to come back, especially late in the game when Leo Karlsson tied the game with just over a minute left in the game.

Note that Leo Karlsson scored three points in this game, giving him 33 points, including 13 goals, in 24 games, good for 4th in the NHL and on pace for 113 points in an 82-game season.
Anyway, let's move on to the penalty shootout where another Ducks prodigy put on a show as Mason McTavish made a superb play at the expense of Darcy Kuemper.

In short, the Ducks are truly fun to watch this season.
5. Auston Matthews humiliates Alex Ovechkin
The Toronto Maple Leafs were in Washington last night to take on the Capitals and, as expected, the Leafs suffocated.
They blew a 2-0 lead but lost 4-2 and remained bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
The only bright spot in the game for the Leafs was the excellent play of Auston Matthews, who was unable to avoid Alex Ovechkin's shot on goal by Matthew Nice.

Ovi looked crazy in this episode, but in the end he would have the last laugh as the Caps pulled out the win.

Jakob Chychrun has 13 points in his last ten games.
After a while
– That's all yesterday's results.
– Here are the top scorers of yesterday.

– Today's NHL schedule: 11 games.
