What's better than watching a Detroit legend rock the stage? An unexpected mixture from two of them.
Motor City-native Jack White was announced as the player at halftime of the Detroit Lions' annual Thanksgiving Day football game (this year against the Green Bay Packers). However, the rocker decided to up the ante by releasing Eminem the middle is a medley.
White kicked off his holiday setlist with “That’s How I Feel,” from his 2024 album “No Name.” Eminem then rose from the depths of the stage to perform a rock version of his 2002 anthem “Till I Collapse,” sending the already excited crowd into a frenzy. White closed with his own stadium anthem, the fan-favorite White Stripes track “Seven Nation Army.” (The halftime show took place just a couple of weeks after the now-defunct rock band broke up. inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.)
Eminem, aka Marshall Mathers, who is perhaps the Lions' most famous fan, and his longtime manager and Shady Records president Paul Rosenberg were recently brought in by the team to consult on the production of the annual halftime show through 2027.
“We are thrilled to be working with Marshall and Paul, two of the most accomplished and respected names in the music industry, not to mention longtime Lions fans,” Detroit Lions President and CEO Rod Wood said in a statement announcing the multi-year partnership. “Their reputation in the business will attract top talent and help us cement this annual performance as one of the most anticipated cultural moments on the NFL calendar.”
The Lions also announced that they have hired Jesse Collins Entertainment (JCE) to produce the play.
Note that White and Eminem weren't the only hometown heroes to perform at an NFL game; Before the performance began, gospel singer CeCe Winans gave a rousing rendition of the national anthem.
