Winnipeg Blue Bombers wide receiver Dillon Mitchell has been arrested and identified as a suspect in a recent alleged high-speed chase in Arkansas.
According to court documents obtained NEA reportMitchell was arrested on Monday, November 17, after police said he led law enforcement officers on a pursuit at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
The warrant states that Mitchell was subsequently charged with the following: escape; careless driving; aggravated assault; wrong turn; movement to the left of center; careless and prohibited driving; interference in the affairs of a law enforcement officer; follow too closely; driving more than 100 mph; driving while your driver's license is cancelled, suspended or revoked; and restrictions on overtaking an overtaken vehicle on the left.
“This morning we learned of an incident involving Dillon Mitchell that occurred last week,” a Blue Bombers spokesperson wrote. 3DownNation on Thursday. “The club is gathering further information and will not be providing further comment at this time.”
The six-foot-one, 185-pound target signed with the Blue Bombers in January for about $150,000, although he ended up making just 19 catches for 193 yards and one touchdown over nine regular-season games. Mitchell was healthy for the team's remaining nine regular-season games and did not dress for the East semifinals.
Mitchell is not under contract with Winnipeg through 2026, making him a pending free agent.
The Memphis, Tenn. native emerged as a breakout star for the Edmonton Elks in 2022, making 35 catches for 637 yards and four touchdowns through his first nine career CFL games. He played two more seasons with the club, but was not as effective: in 36 regular-season games, he had 95 receptions for 1,259 yards and eight touchdowns.
The 28-year-old was originally drafted in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, although he never played with the team in the regular season.
None of the allegations against Mitchell have been tested in court. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
