They then reunited on screen for the 2008 film. Revolutionary Road:
And although it's been almost three decades since the couple first met, they remain as close as ever: Leo even walked Kate down the aisle at her wedding to Edward Abel Smith, aka Ned Rocknroll, in 2012.
FYI: Adam and Kate worked together on the 2015 film. Steve Jobsand Adam told host Becky that they reunited at the 2016 SAG Awards in Los Angeles, where Britain's Kate suggested they and their partners have dinner together after the ceremony.
“I was like, ‘Yeah, okay. This is our city, we’ll invite you to dinner, Kate,” Adam recalls. “And she was like, 'Um, well, why don't we just have lunch where I'm staying because it's so much easier?' I'm like, “Oh, because you're like super famous… What hotel are you in?”
“She was like, 'Oh, no. I always stay with Leo when I'm in town,” he then said, recounting his shock at being invited to Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio's house. “I'm like, 'Are we going to Leo's right now?' She's like, “Yeah, he'll order food and we'll…” he just won the Best Actor award for Survivor! Just a few minutes ago!
“So I was like, 'Hey, I didn't know we were going to Leonardo DiCaprio's house, can we stop by the liquor store on Sunset and get something?' She was like, 'Of course!'” Adam continued. “So two of us jump out of her car, she's barefoot in the most beautiful dress in the world, covered in diamonds from an awards ceremony, I'm in a tuxedo. We go in, get a nice bottle of whiskey, and I'm starving because we haven't eaten anything, so I grab a bag of Goldfish cheddar.”
“I'm the last one out of the car, when we pull up to Leo, he's standing on the porch and says, 'Ahhh, you guys are here!' – he continued. “I hand Kate a bottle of whiskey and she hands a bottle of whiskey to Leo. I walk out, I'm the last one there, and all I have is this bag of goldfish.”
“And I don't want to say, 'Oh, that scotch was from me,'” Adam laughed, before sharing Leo's genuinely grateful reaction to being given a bag of goldfish. “So I just gave him the goldfish and just said, 'It's cheddar!' And he was like, “Thank you! Thank you! Thanks dude!
“We come in, we have champagne, we have the best night ever,” he concluded. “The first thing I do when I get home at like three o'clock in the morning is text all my boys: 'Hey, you won't believe it, Winslet took me to DiCaprio's house that night! It was the coolest house I've ever seen in my life!”
And the fact that Kate stays with Leo every time she's in Los Angeles—and feels comfortable enough there to invite other people over for dinner—is perhaps not surprising, given how much they admire each other in interviews, seek each other out at red carpets and awards shows, and have been each other's biggest cheerleaders over the years.
Previously there was a video montage of their friendship went viral on social networksincluding the moment Leo blew Kate a kiss from the audience as she accepted her 2009 Golden Globes, and Kate said in her speech at the time: “Leo, I'm so happy that I can stand here and tell you how much I love you and how much I've loved you for 13 years. I love you with all my heart, I really do.”
And in 2016, Kate burst with pride when Leo dominated the awards ceremony before winning his first-ever Oscar for his role in Survivor. In one clip from that time, she excitedly admits: “I was so focused on Leo and him winning everything!”
But despite how much some fans want the two to meet romantically, Kate has repeatedly insisted there was never any attraction between them. In fact, early in their friendship, in 1998, Kate laughed off claims that they were an item in a magazine interview. Rolling Stone — saying the affair would be “absolutely like incest.”
She repeated this in 2014, saying Marie Claire“I think the reason the friendship works is because there was never anything romantic about it. People are so sad to hear that because in the soap opera that tells Kate and Leo's story, we fell in love at first sight and kissed a million times.”
And in 2017 Katya said about Leo: “Fortunately, and it was luck, we never liked each other. I know this is really disappointing to hear, sorry. We've never actually done this. So it really meant that we could have that… be able to tease each other, which we still do, and it's really amazing.”
She also discussed at length the nature of their close friendship, saying Titanic in 2017 interview: “I left with one of the greatest friends of my life in my back pocket – Leo.”
Sharing more details about how they spend time together, Kate added: Glamor the same year: “Sometimes we quote strange Titanic lines forward and backward to each other. Because only we can, and we find it really funny.”
“You don't even want to know what the last conversation we had was because it was so funny and made me laugh so much,” Kate continued. “We found ourselves saying to each other, 'Can you imagine if the world really knew the stupid things we say?' I'm not going to tell you what we're really talking about, but yeah, we're very, very close.”
Leo also praised Kate, calling her one of his “dearest friends” in a 2010 interview with the magazine Esqwhere he added: “We trust each other completely.”
And in 2021, Kate said she “couldn't stop crying” when she was finally able to reunite with Leo after they spent three years apart amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview with the publication Guardianshe shared, “I've known him half his life! It's not like I ended up in New York or he was in London and there was an opportunity to have dinner or coffee and catch up. We couldn't leave our countries.”
