Kristin Chenoweth Reacts To ‘The Queen Of Versailles’ Early Closing

Two days after the announcement of a new Broadway musical Queen of Versaillesin just its third week at the St James's Theatre, closes on January 4it's a star Kristin Chenoweth contemplating cancellation.

“I just want to say that I'm so proud of this new art that we've created, and it's getting harder and harder to do,” she said in an Instagram video. “I think about all the shows over the last few seasons that have come and gone that not everyone got to see,” she added, referring to the uphill battle for new musicals over the past few years.

“I just really love Broadway, I love audiences and I love the living art form,” the Tony winner said, inviting those who had not yet seen Queen of Versailless to do this in the next month or so.

“And also get a ticket to any Broadway show because Broadway is the best, you have the form of live performance and there is nothing better than watching and sharing the experience with the audience,” she added. You can watch the video below.

Queen of Versailles opened on November 9 and grossed $6,443,798. Starring Chenoweth and F. Murray Abraham, with music and lyrics by Oscar winner Stephen Schwartz and book by Lindsay Ferrentino. It was directed by Tony winner Michael Arden. The project reunites Chenoweth and Schwartz on Broadway for the first time since the original production. Wicked.

The story is based on Lauren Greenfield's 2012 documentary. Queen of Versailles, which tells the story of Jackie and David Siegel, billionaires who tried to build a luxury home in Florida inspired by the Palace of Versailles, but saw their fortunes and lifestyle deteriorate due to the 2008 financial crisis.
