President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that officials from South Africa will not be invited to a summit of leading rich and developing countries in Miami next year, just days after this year's meeting ended with virtually no US presence.
“At my direction, South Africa will NOT receive an invitation to the 2026 G20 Summit to be held in the great city of Miami, Florida next year. South Africa has demonstrated to the world that it is not a country worthy of membership anywhere,” Trump. posted in Truth Social.
The G20 consists of 19 countries, as well as the European Union and the African Union. This year's summit was held in South Africa and was not attended by senior US officials following Trump's baseless claims of “white genocide” against Afrikaners, the white ethnic minority who ruled South Africa during apartheid.
The allegations were bolstered this year by tech mogul Elon Musk — a South African native — who spent the first few months of Trump's second term working as an adviser to the president and overseeing the Department of Government Effectiveness.
In May, Trump hosted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House in what turned into a tense meeting during which Trump played a video montage of clips on Oval Office television screens that he said supported his claims of genocide. Ramaphosa and other South Africans have strongly rejected accusations of genocide.
Trump administration greeted white South Africans after Trump released A decree It stated that the United States would help with the resettlement of “Afrikaner refugees fleeing government-sponsored racial discrimination, including racially discriminatory property confiscation.”
South African officials also deny that they are seizing land from Afrikaner farmers.
“This is not government policy,” Ramaphosa said in May.
Trump repeated his claims in a Truth Social post on Wednesday.
“The United States did not attend the G20 summit in South Africa because the South African government refuses to acknowledge or address the horrendous human rights abuses suffered by Afrikaners and other descendants of Dutch, French and German settlers. To put it more bluntly, they are killing white people and letting them have their farms randomly taken from them,” he wrote.
Next year there will be a G20 meeting at Trump National Doralresort in Florida owned by the Trump family business.
