This $29/25GB prepaid wireless plan might be the best Black Friday deal yet

Canadian carriers' Black Friday deals haven't been great so far, but if you're looking for a cheap cell phone plan with a decent amount of data, you might want to start looking at prepaid options.

Rogers' Chatr Mobile prepaid brand is back Black Friday 29/25 GB plan offered in 2024. And it's not the only provider offering a 29/25GB prepaid plan—Bell's Lucky Mobile has it, as well as Telus-owned Koodo.

Chatra Plan includes 20GB of 4G data and a bonus 5GB of data for customers who sign up for automatic payments, as well as unlimited calling across Canada. For text messages, customers receive unlimited incoming and 2,000 outgoing messages to Canadian, US and international numbers.

This text message change is the biggest difference between the Black Friday deal and last year's promotion. Chatr stopped including unlimited texting in its plans earlier this yearpart of a broader trend of Rogers-owned wireless providers ditching common features as profit-boosting plans—we've seen something like this when Fido turned hotspot access into a paid add-on.

But if you can ignore the text message changes, then this Chatr plan isn't too bad. If texting is important to you, I would suggest looking at others.

Lucky Mobile 29/25 GB plan on Black Friday.

Lucky Mobile Plan very similar to Chatr, offering 20GB of 4G data and a 5GB data bonus for customers using autopay. Unlike Chatr, the Lucky plan includes unlimited texting throughout Canada and abroad, as well as unlimited calling throughout Canada.

Koodo Black Friday plan worth 29/25 GB.

Kudo Prepaid Plan also offers 20GB of 4G data and 5GB of bonus autopay data, as well as unlimited calling across Canada and unlimited international texting. There isn't much difference between the Koodo and Lucky plans, so the best decision depends on whether Telus or Bell offers the best service in your area.

Ultimately, the 29/25GB plan is one of the best deals I've seen this Black Friday. It can be difficult to find decent plans under $30 a month in Canada, so when a deal like this comes along, it's usually worth taking. Unfortunately, it's unclear how long these deals will last—neither provider has an end date for this plan. However, they all list December 1st as the end date for other Black Friday plans, so I'm guessing the 29/25GB option will also disappear on December 1st.

With that in mind, it might make sense to wait until Black Friday to see if anything better comes along. If not, the 29/25 GB plan is fine for most people.
