Even in a universe full of dragons, gods and talking cats, RuneScape has always had a soft spot for quiet criminals. Stealing has been part of the DNA of MMORPGs for two decades now, and today it's finally got the luster that longtime pickpockets have been waiting for. Heists – A new piece of co-op content has officially been released, allowing you to level up your Heist skill to level 120.
If you haven't heard the term “alone together” before, imagine everyone breaking into alone…into the same building. You'll infiltrate high-security facilities, evade patrols, crack safes, and watch other players fall into traps in real time. Sometimes this is useful (free information). The heists lean heavily on classic thieves' fantasy: pickpocketing, mugging, safe-cracking, and the slow, satisfying pleasure of sneaking past guards who really should have taken their jobs more seriously. Each playthrough gives you experience, gold, and a new path to some lucrative rewards, and with the level cap increasing to 120, there's suddenly a lot more room for growth.
There are two major hacks available at launch. Ereditas Vault, a sealed wing of Kharid-eth guarded by ghosts who do not value visitors, is targeted at level 95–105 thieves. It's the safer of the two, but still full of moving parts to keep track of.
Then there's the Asuran Arsenal, a more complex stronghold built around heavier patrols and stricter timing, designed for levels 108–118. Beware of this because one mistimed step can easily ruin half your plan.
In addition to the title content, Heists also introduces a new method of earning money for this skill, new NPCs to pickpocket, and additional chests to steal. Jagex has already confirmed that new heists are in the works, so this is just the first crack in the vault door for RuneScape.
