At approximately 4:50 pm Saturday, Calgary. fire Crews were called to the 100 block of Taradale Close NE for reports of two homes engulfed in flames.
Calgary District Fire Chief Dave Nelson told Global News the call was quickly upgraded to a two-alarm fire and an additional engine was added.
“When crews arrived, there was a lot of fire in both houses. It spread very, very, very quickly,” Nelson explained.
“I highly doubt these houses will be reoccupied. Both of these houses will probably be demolished.”
The flames spread quickly, causing extensive damage to two homes.

Residents of the two houses were able to get out safely, but two occupants in the basement of the home were extricated by firefighters and taken to Foothills Hospital in critical but non-life-threatening condition.
Navdeep Rana lives next door to one of the houses and was the one who called 911 after first learning what was happening.

“It looked like someone was cooking or barbecuing something,” Rana said. “(I) went over to check and there was a fire on that side.”
Navdeep Rana discovered the fire was burning and rushed to call 911 and alert his neighbors.

Rana continued by saying he doesn't remember much after he came across the fire, which was burning between two houses. He just started helping.
“My children played with their children at home,” Rana said. “So I just saved them to get outside.”
The third house was also significantly damaged, but fortunately the occupants were able to return once the fire was extinguished.
The Calgary Fire Department continues to investigate the cause of the original fire, but is reminding Calgary residents to ensure their smoke detectors are working properly and to remove flammable materials from the exterior of their home to reduce the risk of fire spreading.
